World of Warcraft Healer survey….

December 11, 2009

What is the name, class, and spec of your primary healer?
Fallion, Priest, and I play both Holy and Disc

What is your primary group healing environment? (i.e. raids, pvp, 5 mans)
25 man hard mode progressions fights

What is your favorite healing spell for your class and why?
For Holy (and I guess Disc) Prayer of Mending. It’s a set and forget spell that really is awesome – keeps people alive and saves me a lot worry. But as Disc, my absolutely favorite spell of all time has to be the ubiquitous bubble.

What healing spell do you use least for your class and why?
As Disc probably Greater Heal, simply because I rarely am only healing a tank. I spend a LOT of time bubbling low health raid members in hopes of free bursts of mana. Well.. and to save lives and make it easier for the raid healers to do their job. As Holy, I rarely use binding heal. I know.. I know.. I use it a lot as disc, why not holy? Probably because my ever-present renew, or my POM, or even my COH has me topped off before I need more than that.

What do you feel is the biggest strength of your healing class and why?
Raid healing. Simply incredible raid healing abilities as both Disc and Holy. The Holy Priest’s hasted heals and AOE strengths make it a logical choice for keeping a raid alive, while the Disc’s regular bubbles and crit bubbles all over everyone make for some very sexy damage mitigation.

What do you feel is the biggest weakness of your healing class and why?
That we are way too easy to kill? Of all the healers we are the squishiest and have nothing to compensate for that major weakness in return. With the exception of some players with very skillful playing or a mega-fast computer and connection, your average priest won’t be any better at healing than any other class. I fear for the day raid leaders realize this and stop inviting Priests to the raid.

In a 25 man raiding environment, what do you feel, in general, is the best healing assignment for you?
Raid. As Disc I don’t mind tank healing, but would much rather raid mitigation with a special emphasis on tanks.

What healing class do you enjoy healing with most and why?
Shaman or Pallies. Maybe Shamans a bit more than pallies due to their versatility, but the synergy between a Paladin and a Priest can be a beautiful thing.

What healing class do you enjoy healing with least and why?
Other Holy or Disc priests. Where to start? The Holy Priests keep bubbling even when asked not to, and regardless of spec we tend to overwrite each other’s POM’s. Very annoying. Oh, and not using a raid frame that has healcomm so they cant see my incoming heals and spam my heal targets. It makes me have a frowny face. Oh! And Holy Priests who are meter happy POMing my tank assignment before a pull. Put that on your own healing assignment please. Kthxbai.

What is your worst habit as a healer?
Getting carried away and not paying attention to incoming heals and spamming targets that are either hotted up already or in the process of getting a chain heal or something. I feel bad when I spam another healer’s target. Happens waaaay too easy as a Holy Priest…

What is your biggest pet peeve in a group environment while healing?
The unspoken, but ever-present healing meter competition. And the fools who believe the highest person on the healing meter must really be the bestest and most knowledgeable healer to grace the planet. Sigh.

Do you feel that your class/spec is well balanced with other healers for PvE healing?
Kinda yes. But like I mentioned before, it would be nice to have a bit more balance in regards to compensation for being the squishiest healer in the raid.

What tools do you use to evaluate your own performance as a healer?
World of Logs. I like to try to evaluate how I performed on a fight, whether I used the right spell at the right time, had just enough mana or ran out early from too-zealous over healing, if I died like a scrubb, or let my target die like a scrubb. I like to try to do better and improve my personal performance against my own numbers every time I heal.

What do you think is the biggest misconception people have about your healing class?
That priests are fun to play. Lol. Really. My Drood is way more fun to heal on, or even DPS with. And I hear being a resto shammy is awesome from friends who have switched.

What do you feel is the most difficult thing for new healers of your class to learn?
How to master the 15 bazillion different spells we need to use for every unique situation. I feel it takes longer to master the mechanics of priest healing than any other healing class in WOW.

If someone were to try to evaluate your performance as a healer via recount, what sort of patterns would they see (i.e. lots of overhealing, low healing output, etc)?’
Probably way too much overhealing on my Holy Priest and a tendency to stray from my assignment too much in 25mans on my Disc Priest. But in my defense, if healing leads really understood the power Disc Priests bring to a 25man raid they would be happy that I am doing that and keep someone else as primary tank healer ;D heehe.

Haste or Crit and why?
Haste for Holy. So we can pump out the healing we need super fast to keep everyone alive.
Crit for Disc so we can keep the bubbles up and keep the damage off everyone long enough to kill that boss that is pounding in the tank’s face grill.

What healing class do you feel you understand least?
Shamans. What is with this earth shield thingie? And can they hot or not? Why do they pitch fits when asked to MT heal and why are so many of them out and out grumpy to be around??

What add-ons or macros do you use, if any, to aid you in healing?
Just Vuhdo. I don’t use a meter or decurser or anything else. If vuhdo doesn’t do it, and it currently does it all, I don’t need it. I like a minimal setup.

Do you strive primarily for balance between your healing stats, or do you stack some much higher than others, and why?
I like to stack Spirit/int then spellpower for Holy and Int then Crit/spellpower for Disc. Just the way it works for me. I like the regen of mana to balance out my heal style, then when I have achieved perfect amount so I can do a whole fight without begging a druid for an innervate, I stack spellpower. (and crit for disc).

When a friend leaves forever, and you get that little “Friend removed because the character no longer exists” message, how does it make you feel?

There is a real person behind every avatar in an MMO. These humans breathe, feel, think, and are as real as you or me. We find ourselves connecting on Facebook, on the phone and meeting every day in the game to be a part of each other’s real lives.

Is feeling a sense of loss when they go away any less valid because it happened in a Virtual Reality world instead of what we call “real life”? Does it hurt less if you cant recall who that person was? What if the one who left is someone you care about as a friend and dont want to see walking out of your life?

Thoughts to ponder
